A Unique Opportunity for Entrepreneurs
Enthusiasm for a new business venture, and the potential for success, are often dampened by the lonely task of developing and executing a good business plan. Too many entrepreneurs find themselves without access to sound, professional advice on key decisions including marketing strategies, product development, and financing.
Encouraging and supporting entrepreneurs helps provide Atlantic Canada with the new, innovative businesses critical to developing a strong economy. Entrepreneurs' Forum, a non-profit organization, comprised of volunteers from the business and professional community, provides that support by giving timely, practical and expert advice during key stages of a new or existing business.
While a variety of resources exist, it is extremely difficult for an entrepreneur to track down, consult and reconcile differing suggestions and, often, pay for all the resources and advice necessary for business success. In addition, few of these resources offer input from people who have actually created, managed and worked with new and growing businesses.
By working with volunteer advisors from the business community and employing staff with strong business experience, Entrepreneurs' Forum is better able to provide realistic suggestions and ideas. EF has developed formats for confidential business review sessions that provide the entrepreneur with a great deal of professional advice and the benefits of constructive criticism and brainstorming. Our volunteer advisors have strong business connections throughout Canada and through their personal networks can access advice, support and ideas well beyond what many entrepreneurs are able to find working alone.
Entrepreneurs' Forum Advisors are frank. However, all criticisms are kept constructive. In situations where entrepreneurs have been advised that they may be taking a major wrong turn, alternatives and follow-up support are offered. While accurate and direct comments can sometimes be difficult for the entrepreneur, frank evaluation can also save untold cost and personal sacrifice. Entrepreneurs have appreciated the frank, open discussion.
EF can provide an entrepreneur with many useful ideas, plans and significant advice in one extended meeting. After the initial advisory session, follow-up activities include coaching and helping the entrepreneur locate needed resources. Connections in the business community continue long after the EF session.
In addition to small, private sessions, Entrepreneurs' Forum conducts seminars targeted to entrepreneurs' concerns. Seminars have included sessions in equity financing, business angels, market research using the Internet, and general market research on a budget.
