Ken DesRoches
Advisor
Ken DesRoches of Prince Edward Island is an EF Advisor, and a member of the EF SubCommittee for the island. Now semi-retired, his cv includes teaching, politics, business, management, consulting, and more. He’s a selective consultant now, and prior to that served as President of Slemon Park Corporation, an entity dedicated to aviation, aerospace and training facilities in PEI.
In most all of his varied career tracks, Ken found himself playing the role of problem solver. “The first step to problem solving,” he says, “is identifying exactly what the problem is.”
This skill is instrumental in his role as EF Advisor. He first became involved in 2006 and has been part of more than 15 sessions over the past few years. As Ken sees it, EF makes a difference in two specific ways. He says, “I’ve moderated a lot of panels, and each time the client has come away with a clearer understanding of what the challenge is. Whatever it is they’re facing, following the session they can see it differently in some ways than before.”
The other major benefit Ken sees is the change advice and support from a professional network can bring. He says, “Sometimes our clients come to us frustrated – the bank doesn’t understand, the investors aren’t happy and things aren’t going well. Often they leave with new ideas that just might work, and renewed confidence because of it. That helps make things work.”
